two Optis and an RS zest sail on a pretty lake in Pinawa

This past week, the Pinawa Sailing Club had the pleasure of hosting a Sailing School in partnership with Sail Manitoba. Sail Manitoba brought two fantastic coaches, Olivia and Andrew to help us facilitate the program. What a great weekend of sailing!

We had over 20 participants and plenty of spectators. The ages ranged from children as young as seven as well as teenagers and adults. It was wonderful to see kids confidently taking out their own boats.

The conditions gave everyone a chance to grow. Day one brought calm, beautiful weather – perfect for learning the basics and getting comfortable on the water. Day two brought stronger winds, which really put those new skills to the test, and the sailors rose to the challenge with determination and enthusiasm.

On Saturday evening, many of the participants and club members gathered for a casual social. We took out keelboats for rides, swam, tried different boats, and finished the day with a bonfire. It was a great way to connect, share stories, and celebrate an awesome Pinawa weekend.

We’ve already heard from many people who wished they could have attended but couldn’t make the dates or hadn’t heard about it in time. The good news: we’ll be running this event again next year! Be sure to subscribe to our site so you don’t miss the announcement when dates are confirmed.

A huge thank-you goes out to Sail Manitoba, our coaches Olivia and Andrew, and all the volunteers who pitched in to make this possible. We couldn’t have done it without you. It’s also been exciting to see a wave of new members joining our club as part of what feels like a real renaissance for the Pinawa Sailing Club.

If you weren’t able to participate but are still interested in learning to sail or joining the club, reach out to us – we’d love to meet you. We’ve got a fantastic group of people here, and we’re always excited to welcome new sailors.
